An IBO customer had been looking for a reliable partner for a long time. He tried out many standard designs of deep groove ball bearings - nothing fitted exactly to his specific requirements. Ultimately, he approached our development team with a desire for a bearing solution under the following extreme environmental and operating conditions:

  • Specified installation space
  • High speed requirements (40.000 to 100.000 revolutions / min)
  • High radial and axial loads
  • High ambient temperature (150 to 160°C)
  • Application under gas atmosphere

Our IBO Approach

In close cooperation with our customers, our engineering team analyses application and operating data. On this basis and using the latest programs and technologies, we have developed a solution for our customers based on the following criteria:

  • Selection of the most suitable bearing design for the application
  • Selection of the materials of the individual components on the basis of a property matrix in order to achieve a special resistance of the bearings to corrosion, wear and material fatigue under extreme operating and unsuitable lubrication conditions:
    • Bearing rings made of pressure embroidered, highly corrosion-resistant martensitic cold work steel
    • Rolling elements made of high-strength, hot-pressed silicon nitride (Si3N4)
    • High temperature resistant thermoplastic cage (PEEK)
    • Sealing washers of highly thermal and chemically resistant fluoroelastomer
    • Specification of the lubrication in close cooperation with the lubricant manufacturer and determination of the supply of the bearing with lubrication.
  • Optimization of the bearing components in their geometry with regard to the high speeds in the application
  • Design of the required fits taking into account the shape stiffness of the indiVerification of the design on the basis of a parameterised service life calculation, with regard to the target for the service life
